Following the boy, an exhibition of paintings by Eden-based artist, David Boyd opened at Her Citi on Crosby Street in Maryport on Tuesday 13th July 2021.

Following the boy featured 16 of David’s paintings from the summer of 2020, when he was able to travel and work outdoors between the Covid 19 lockdowns.

The exhibition included new plein air paintings of Cumbrian coastal landscapes and town scenes, extending beyond David’s usual subject matter around his home in the Eden Valley to the Cumbrian coastal towns of Allonby, Silloth and Maryport.

“The title of the exhibition, Following the boy, is inspired by my own journeys across this area when I was growing up,” says David. “Allonby, Silloth and Maryport are places where I holidayed as a child and I hope that the paintings draw from the character of these places as they are now as well as being coloured by my memories from childhood.”

The venue for David’s exhibition, Her Citi is a renowned local café in the harbour town of Maryport. It is known for its good food, changing exhibitions and unusual boutique clothing and interiors so makes an ideal venue for David’s work. During the exhibition, the café will be serving a full licensed menu and teas, coffees, scones and cakes throughout the day. Her Citi is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am – 4pm and Following the boy runs until Saturday 18th September 2021.
